PCS to NAS Oceana. PCS out to the next squadron. Coming off a det to NAS Fallon. Rotating out of TOPGUN. End of pilot tour into a shore billet. Aviation maintainer rolling to the next strike fighter squadron. Retiring after 20 in tactical aviation.
We move Master Jet Base aviators every week.
Our veteran-led crews know the Tomcat Boulevard Main Gate (24/7), the Back Gate / Gate 2 (0530-1730 M-F), and the Dam Neck Annex Gate (24/7). We know the 4,165 on-base units — 18 enlisted housing areas, 6 officer areas, 37 flag officer units. We know the Oceana District Housing Office at 1200 S. Birdneck Road. We know which Virginia Beach neighborhoods sit inside the AICUZ noise zones — and which ones sit outside. That matters because buying or leasing inside the AICUZ requires written acknowledgement of jet noise and crash zones.
We know the Sound of Freedom is real — F/A-18 Super Hornets training continuously, including night ops past 2200 in summer. We know which neighborhoods adapt and which ones complain. We know NALF Fentress in Chesapeake handles the practice landings — and we know its AICUZ overlay too.
And we know the operational ecosystem you live in — FACSFAC VACAPES "Giantkiller" controlling your range slots, your air wing's tail code on the carrier, your squadron rotation timeline, your detacher when the boat sails.
We are not a DOD HHG carrier. We do not bid government contracts.
We are the local veteran-owned crew Oceana aviators call when government movers can't, won't, or shouldn't handle the whole job.

WHO WE ARE
Military Veterans Moving People (MVMP) — operating on the Southside as Norfolk Military Veteran Movers via norfolkmovers.org and on the Peninsula as Hampton Virginia Military Veteran Movers via hamptonmovingcompanies.com.
Cross-tunnel veteran-owned movers running operations on both sides of the HRBT. One of the few moving companies in Hampton Roads that doesn't disappear when you cross-tunnel. That matters when you're an Oceana aviator rotating to a Peninsula billet, when your spouse works on the Peninsula, or when your next squadron sends you cross-tunnel to NWS Yorktown or back to NAS Norfolk.
Veteran-led mixed crew — Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard veterans alongside trained civilian movers. Veteran standards. Civilian execution support.
Paid vendor for the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board. Recognized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
We are not a DOD HHG carrier. We do not bid government contracts. We are the personally-procured crew Oceana aviators hire when:
— DOD weight allowance won't cover your full household
— PPM (formerly DITY) pays better than government HHG and the math works out
— Government HHG carriers can't accommodate your squadron rotation timeline
— You're moving INTO on-base housing from off-base in Virginia Beach
— You're moving OUT of base housing into off-base BAH housing
— Orders dropped late — short-fuse PCS (common in tactical aviation)
— Sea-to-shore rotation out of a flying squadron into a staff billet
— Coming off det to Fallon, Lemoore, or El Centro back to home station
— You want a veteran-owned business handling your household — period
We work NAS Oceana aviators every week. Every squadron rotation, every workup cycle, every post-cruise rotation, we run heavy volume on the Master Jet Base.

🇺🇸 WHY GREGORY "BIG VET" SLEDGE BUILT THIS CREW
I served. I came home. I went through a VA homeless program. I've been 15 years sober.
From inside that program, I built Military Veterans Moving People (MVMP) — one truck, one mission, one promise: veterans helping veterans move with the dignity government HHG carriers and national chains can't fake.
When an Oceana aviator calls 757-330-0008, they're not getting a dispatcher in another state reading from a script. They're getting a crew that knows what it costs to lose everything — and what it takes to rebuild from there.
We don't steal from the rich. We just outwork them, outthink them, and outcare them.
That's the Robin Hood math. No theft. Just better movers.
Two Men and a Truck has 250 franchises. Mayflower has a marketing department in Missouri. Atlas Van Lines has a corporate budget that dwarfs my annual revenue.
I have one thing they don't: I am the veteran they market to. Every aviator we move, every PCS family, every retiring chief — they're not customers. They're family. Because I've been on the receiving end of "you're on your own now," and I built MVMP so no one else has to feel that on move day.
When you hire us, you're not hiring a chain. You're hiring a veteran who built this from nothing and runs it like every move matters — because every move does.

⚠️ BEFORE YOU BOOK ANY MOVER FOR YOUR OCEANA PCS
— Tomcat Boulevard Main Gate is 24/7 — Visitor Control Center adjacent
— Back Gate (Gate 2) closes at 1730 weekdays and ALL weekends — don't plan move-day routing through it after hours
— Dam Neck Annex has its own 24/7 gate — different procedures than NAS Oceana proper
— NALF Fentress is operational airfield in Chesapeake, not residential — but Chesapeake addresses near Fentress fall under AICUZ overlay
— AICUZ zones cover large portions of Virginia Beach AND Chesapeake — your lease or purchase requires written acknowledgement if inside the zone
— On-base housing waitlist varies from 0-3 months to 18-24 months — call Oceana District Housing at 757-447-9851 the day your orders confirm
— Government HHG carriers decline pianos, gun safes, antiques, motorcycles, watercraft, certain electronics — aviators tend to own more of these than average
— Aviation PCS rhythm follows squadron rotations and workup cycles, NOT seasonal Air Force surge
— Cost of living in Virginia Beach runs 8.74% above national average — BAH math matters more here
— National chains learn the base on YOUR money — we already know it
You won't find this current intel in one place anywhere else.

═══════════════════════════════════════════════════
✈️ NAS OCEANA — WHAT'S ACTUALLY HERE
NAS Oceana is the U.S. Navy's East Coast Master Jet Base — the home of every F/A-18 Super Hornet squadron in the Atlantic Fleet. The mission: support Atlantic and Pacific Fleet Force F/A-18 strike fighter operations and train and deploy the Navy's strike-fighter squadrons.
THE NUMBERS:
— 10,500 active Navy personnel
— 10,000 family members
— 4,500 civilian personnel
— 25,000+ total community
— Second-largest employer in the City of Virginia Beach
COMMANDER, NAVAL AIR FORCE ATLANTIC (CNAL / AIRLANT) is headquartered here — the command that organizes, trains, and equips Atlantic Fleet naval aviation forces.
F/A-18 SUPER HORNET STRIKE FIGHTER SQUADRONS — Multiple VFA-numbered squadrons rotate through Oceana between deployments, workups, and shore duty. This drives the highest PCS volume on the base. Pilots, Weapons Systems Officers (WSOs), aviation maintainers, ordnance personnel, and squadron staff all rotate on aviation timelines.
FACSFAC VACAPES "GIANTKILLER" — Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility, Virginia Capes — controls the airspace every Oceana F/A-18 trains in. When a Super Hornet checks in for a range slot, they're calling "Giantkiller." When a carrier strike group runs workups before deploying, Giantkiller coordinates the airspace. It's the controlling agency every aviator knows by call sign.
H-3 SEA KING SAR HELICOPTERS — Two helicopters assigned for search-and-rescue operations.
DAM NECK ANNEX — Located 9 miles southeast of NAS Oceana proper, Dam Neck Annex houses multiple commands including Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU) — the unit popularly known as SEAL Team Six. Dam Neck also hosts Center for Surface Combat Systems and other training commands. Different gate, different access protocols, different population — but managed under the same NAS Oceana umbrella.
NALF FENTRESS — Naval Auxiliary Landing Field Fentress in Chesapeake. This outlying field handles Field Carrier Landing Practice (FCLP) — the practice landings F/A-18 aviators must complete before deploying on a carrier. Fentress is where the "Sound of Freedom" intensifies for Chesapeake residents living near the field. Chesapeake addresses near Fentress fall under AICUZ overlay too.
WHY THIS MATTERS FOR MOVES: Aviation PCS isn't generic Navy PCS. F/A-18 pilots have shorter assignment cycles than surface fleet enlisted (2-3 years per squadron typical), squadrons deploy on carrier strike groups requiring pre- and post-deployment moves, dets to NAS Fallon (TOPGUN), NAS Lemoore, and NAS El Centro pull aviators away from home station for weeks at a time. Aviation families learn to move efficiently because they move often.
NAS Oceana sits on Oceana Boulevard in central Virginia Beach. Primary access via Tomcat Boulevard (Main Gate) and Oceana Boulevard (Back Gate).
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════
🚪 NAS OCEANA GATES — KNOW WHICH ONE TO HIT
Three operational gate locations. Each one matters on move day.
MAIN GATE — TOMCAT BOULEVARD — OUR DEFAULT
— Location: Tomcat Boulevard, NAS Oceana
— Hours: 24/7 — always open
— Visitor Control Center adjacent
— Best for: any move requiring visitor pass vetting, off-hours moves, weekend moves, holiday moves
BACK GATE / GATE 2 — OCEANA BOULEVARD
— Location: Oceana Boulevard, NAS Oceana
— Hours: 0530-1730 Monday-Friday only
— Closed weekends and federal holidays
— Best for: weekday daytime moves where the Back Gate route saves time over Tomcat Boulevard
DAM NECK ANNEX GATE
— Location: Dam Neck Annex, Virginia Beach (9 miles southeast of NAS Oceana proper)
— Hours: 24/7 — always open
— Different access procedures than NAS Oceana proper — Dam Neck-specific commands
— Best for: moves to or from Dam Neck housing or facilities
NALF FENTRESS — NO PUBLIC GATE FOR RESIDENTIAL MOVES
— Location: Chesapeake (outlying field, not a residential installation)
— Function: Field Carrier Landing Practice only
— Residential moves: not applicable — Fentress is an operational airfield, not a housing facility
Move-day routing call: Tell us your destination (which on-base housing area OR which off-base address), and we pre-clear the gate route based on time of day, vetting status, and truck size. First-time crew vet at the Tomcat Boulevard Visitor Control Center — plan 30-45 minutes for initial entry. You never burn move-day hours at a closed gate.
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════
🏘️ NAS OCEANA ON-BASE HOUSING — INTEL
Oceana District Housing manages 4,165 total on-base units across the installation:
— 18 enlisted housing areas — 3,902 total units
— 6 officer housing areas — 226 total units
— 37 flag officer units
Oceana District Housing Office:
1200 S. Birdneck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23451
Phone: 757-447-9851
Waitlist reality: Varies dramatically by rank and housing type — anywhere from 0-3 months for some categories to 18-24 months for others. Plan for two moves if your category has a long waitlist: initial off-base landing, then on-base transition when your community opens up.
Move-day logistics for on-base housing:
— Confirm community name AND street address at booking — 18 enlisted areas + 6 officer areas have different layouts
— First-time crew members vet at Tomcat Boulevard Visitor Control Center
— Some interior streets are narrow — 26-foot truck routing matters
— Community housing offices have specific business hours for key handoff
— Pre-move and post-move condition photos are mandatory for security deposit protection
— Virginia Beach City Public Schools serve on-base school-age children
THE WHO-GOES-WHERE PATTERN: Flag officer housing serves the small population of admirals and senior commanders. Officer housing serves the squadron leadership and CNAL HQ staff. Enlisted housing absorbs the largest population — aviation maintainers, ordnance personnel, supply, and squadron support staff.
THE TWO-MOVE OCEANA REALITY: Many incoming Oceana families land off-base in Kempsville, Hilltop, or Shadowlawn during the wait. Then when on-base housing opens up, they move on. We do both. Same crew. Same standards.
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════
🗺️ OFF-BASE VIRGINIA BEACH CORRIDORS — WHERE AVIATORS ACTUALLY LIVE
Virginia Beach is a big city. Aviation families pick neighborhoods based on commute to the Main Gate, AICUZ noise zone status, school ratings, and BAH math. Here's the map.
SHADOWLAWN — Virginia Beach 23451
Distance to Main Gate: 5-10 minutes BAH match: Junior enlisted, junior officers — most affordable option near base Property type: Older single-family, established neighborhood Median price range: $300,000-$380,000
— Closest neighborhood to NAS Oceana. Older housing stock. Trade-off: some Shadowlawn streets sit inside or adjacent to AICUZ noise zones — verify before signing.
KEMPSVILLE — Virginia Beach 23464
Distance to Main Gate: 10-15 minutes BAH match: E-6 through O-5 — wide rank range, family-friendly Property type: Established single-family, good schools, planned communities Median price range: $350,000-$400,000
— Solid schools, established neighborhoods, plenty of shopping and restaurants along Kempsville Road. Popular with aviation maintainers and squadron staff with families. Mostly outside heavy AICUZ overlay.
RED MILL — Virginia Beach 23456
Distance to Main Gate: 12-18 minutes BAH match: O-3 and senior enlisted — Red Mill Elementary is top-rated Property type: Single-family, newer construction, planned communities Median price range: $400,000-$500,000
— Red Mill Elementary is one of Virginia Beach's top-rated schools. Popular with O-3 pilots and senior enlisted families prioritizing schools. Watch the AICUZ map — some Red Mill addresses fall inside the noise zone.
HILLTOP — Virginia Beach 23454
Distance to Main Gate: 10 minutes (east toward oceanfront) BAH match: Mid-grade enlisted through field grade officers Property type: Mix of older ranches, renovated homes, oceanfront proximity Median price range: $375,000-$475,000
— Close to the beach, Town Center, and shopping. One of the shortest commutes to NAS Oceana. Mostly outside heavy AICUZ overlay.
GREAT NECK — Virginia Beach 23454
Distance to Main Gate: 10 minutes (north) BAH match: Senior enlisted through senior officers Property type: Established neighborhood, larger lots, mature trees Median price range: $400,000-$600,000+
— Quiet streets, proximity to First Landing State Park. Popular with senior personnel. Generally outside AICUZ heavy zones.
OCEANFRONT / NORTH END — Virginia Beach 23451, 23456
Distance to Main Gate: 10-20 minutes BAH match: Senior officers, dual-income families — premium beach proximity Property type: Beach condos, oceanfront homes, single-family near boardwalk
— Premium pricing for ocean access. Some properties inside AICUZ noise zones — verify before lease.
DAM NECK / SANDBRIDGE / PUNGO — Virginia Beach 23456, 23457
Distance to Main Gate: 8-15 minutes (closer to Dam Neck Annex) BAH match: Varies — Dam Neck Annex personnel often live here Property type: Single-family, planned communities, rural-edge
— Convenient for Dam Neck Annex personnel. Sandbridge offers waterfront. Pungo offers rural quiet.
CHESAPEAKE — 23320, 23322, 23323
Distance to Main Gate: 20-30 minutes BAH match: Strong — newer construction, BAH covers well Property type: Newer single-family, planned communities
— Important: Chesapeake areas near NALF Fentress fall inside the AICUZ overlay. Same written acknowledgement requirement as Virginia Beach. Verify before signing.
NORFOLK CROSS-CITY
Distance to Main Gate: 25-40 minutes via I-264 BAH match: Lower Virginia Beach BAH brackets, more Norfolk options
— Some aviators stationed at Oceana live in Norfolk because of spouse jobs or family roots. Cross-city commute via I-264.
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════
⚠️ THE AICUZ NOISE CORRIDOR REALITY — READ THIS BEFORE YOU LEASE
This is the intel nobody else gives you straight. The Sound of Freedom is real.
WHAT AICUZ MEANS:
AICUZ stands for Air Installation Compatible Use Zone. The Department of Defense designed the AICUZ program to identify areas around military airfields where noise and aircraft accident potential affect residential land use.
WHAT VIRGINIA BEACH AND CHESAPEAKE REQUIRE:
— Written acknowledgement is required for the purchase OR lease of any residential property inside the AICUZ around NAS Oceana
— Same requirement applies to areas in Chesapeake near NALF Fentress
— Noise attenuation measures required for new residential construction inside 65 Ldn or greater zones
— City of Virginia Beach adopted the APZ-1 / Clear Zone Master Plan in 2008
— AICUZ Overlay regulated under Article 18 of the City Zoning Ordinance
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR MOVE:
F/A-18 Super Hornet training takes place continuously. Night flights are integral to carrier pilot training — pilots have to land on carriers at night in operational scenarios, so they train for it at home station. Late-summer training extends past 2200 because summer sunsets are later.
SOME FAMILIES ADAPT INSTANTLY. SOME NEVER DO.
If you're moving INTO Virginia Beach and you've never lived near a Master Jet Base before, drive your prospective neighborhood at multiple times of day — including evening — before you sign. The map and the lease look the same in any neighborhood. The noise reality is not.
WHERE TO CHECK THE CURRENT NOISE ZONE MAP:
— City of Virginia Beach Open Data Portal hosts the official AICUZ Noise Zone Outline
— Available at: data.virginiabeach.gov (search "AICUZ" or "Noise Zone Outline")
— Updated periodically as Navy flight operations evolve
WE DON'T LEASE PROPERTIES — BUT WE'VE MOVED ENOUGH AVIATORS TO KNOW WHICH NEIGHBORHOODS HAVE WHICH REALITY. Ask us at booking. We'll tell you what we've seen.
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════
📦 THREE THINGS EVERY NAS OCEANA PCS MUST RESPECT
— Aviation PCS doesn't follow seasonal surge — squadron rotations and workup cycles drive volume year-round
— AICUZ zones require written acknowledgement for any Virginia Beach OR Chesapeake residential lease or purchase
— Tomcat Boulevard Main Gate is your default 24/7 entry — VCC vetting takes 30-45 minutes first time
— Back Gate (Gate 2) closes at 1730 weekdays and ALL weekends — plan move-day routing accordingly
— On-base housing waitlist varies from 0-3 months to 18-24 months — call 757-447-9851 the day orders confirm
— DOD weight allowance rarely covers a full household for senior aviators
— Cost of living in Virginia Beach runs 8.74% above national average — BAH math matters
— Government HHG carriers decline pianos, gun safes, antiques, motorcycles, watercraft, certain electronics
Plan for it. Or pay for it on the clock.

💰 PCS MOVE TYPES WE HANDLE FOR OCEANA AVIATORS
FULL PERSONALLY PROCURED MOVE (PPM) — Formerly DITY. DOD pays you the government rate to move yourself. For Hampton Roads local and regional moves, PPM often nets MORE than government HHG net-net.
How we fit: Labor and truck. You handle the rental (U-Haul, Penske, Budget) or POD container, we provide loading, unloading, and shuttle labor.
PARTIAL PPM (SPLIT SHIPMENT) — DOD HHG carrier handles your bulk shipment. You PPM the overflow, the high-value items, the antiques, the motorcycles, the watercraft, the items you don't trust to a stranger.
INBOUND HHG UNLOADING SUPPORT — Government HHG carrier delivers your shipment. We provide labor to unload and place furniture into your new unit.
SQUADRON-TO-SQUADRON ROTATION — F/A-18 pilots, WSOs, and maintainers rotating between Oceana squadrons. Local moves, fast turnarounds, often pre-cruise or post-cruise timing.
SHORE BILLET TRANSITION — End of flying tour rotating to a staff billet at AIRLANT, CNAL HQ, or elsewhere in Hampton Roads. Sea-to-shore or shore-to-shore transitions.
POST-CRUISE / POST-DEPLOYMENT MOVES — Aviators returning from carrier deployment to a new house spouse-located while they were gone. We handle move-in BEFORE the cruise ends OR same-day move-in WHEN the squadron flies in.
DET-RELATED MOVES — Aviators rotating off long dets to NAS Fallon (TOPGUN), NAS Lemoore (West Coast fleet), or NAS El Centro often need household reorganization on return.
ON-BASE / OFF-BASE TRANSITIONS — Moving from off-base Virginia Beach into Oceana housing when waitlist clears. Moving off-base when leaving the base.
POST-SEPARATION RETIREMENT MOVES — Aviator-to-civilian transition. Veteran-owned crews moving fellow veterans.
SHORT-NOTICE / SHORT-FUSE PCS — Aviation orders can change fast. National chains say no. We say tell us the timeline.
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════
🚛 WHY WE RUN NAS OCEANA BETTER
National van lines and DOD HHG carriers have one thing we don't: government contracts. That's the only edge they bring.
Everything else — Tomcat Boulevard gate intelligence, Back Gate hour restrictions, Dam Neck Annex access procedures, Fentress AICUZ zone mapping, Virginia Beach neighborhood-by-neighborhood noise reality, on-base housing community layouts, BAH math at the building level, aviation PCS rhythm versus surface fleet rhythm, the squadron lifecycle from PCS-in to det to workup to cruise to post-cruise — we own that ground. They don't.
A national chain assigned to your Oceana PCS gets a dispatch sheet with your address and report date. They don't know the Back Gate closes at 1730. They don't know that Shadowlawn sits adjacent to AICUZ noise zones. They don't know that Red Mill Elementary is a draw for O-3 families. They don't know that aviation PCS rhythm is driven by squadron rotations, not seasonal surge. They don't know that F/A-18 night training pushes past 2200 in summer. They don't know that "Giantkiller" is the call sign every aviator uses every day.
They figure it out on your move. You pay for the figuring.
We don't figure it out. We already know it.
When you hire us, you get:
— Current Tomcat Boulevard and Dam Neck Annex gate intelligence
— Pre-confirmed gate routing for every move-day hour
— On-base housing community-specific access protocols
— AICUZ noise zone awareness for any Virginia Beach or Chesapeake address
— PPM weight estimation help to maximize DFAS reimbursement
— Cross-installation coordination (Naval Station Norfolk, JEB Little Creek-Fort Story, NWS Yorktown, JBLE)
— Cross-tunnel coordination via Peninsula operations at hamptonmovingcompanies.com
— A veteran-owned, veteran-led mixed crew treating your household the way we'd want ours treated

👥 WHO PCS'S TO NAS OCEANA
Understanding the Oceana PCS population shapes how we plan every move.
F/A-18 SUPER HORNET PILOTS — VFA-numbered strike fighter squadrons rotate through Oceana on 2-3 year squadron tours. Pilots PCS in pre-deployment, post-deployment, and squadron rotation waves. Higher BAH brackets. Tend to land in Red Mill, Great Neck, or Hilltop with families.
WEAPONS SYSTEMS OFFICERS (WSOs) — Backseat F/A-18F aviators. Similar PCS rhythm to pilots. Often paired with pilot rotations.
AVIATION MAINTAINERS — Squadron-level and intermediate-level maintenance personnel. Wide rank spread. Tend to land in Kempsville, Shadowlawn, or on-base housing.
ORDNANCE PERSONNEL — Weapons handling, magazine operations. Specialized career fields with their own rotation patterns.
CNAL / AIRLANT HQ STAFF — Senior officers, civilian staff, joint-service personnel assigned to the Atlantic Fleet Naval Air Force HQ. Wide rank spread.
FACSFAC VACAPES "GIANTKILLER" STAFF — Air traffic controllers, range coordinators, and surveillance operators running the Virginia Capes Operating Area airspace. Specialized career field with shore-tour patterns.
DAM NECK ANNEX PERSONNEL — DEVGRU operators and support personnel, Center for Surface Combat Systems staff, training command instructors. Different access patterns than NAS Oceana proper.
SAR HELICOPTER CREWS — Small population running the H-3 Sea King search-and-rescue mission.
INCOMING PCS AVIATORS — Year-round volume with squadron rotation peaks. Many start in temporary lodging while finalizing housing in the right AICUZ zone.
OUTGOING PCS AVIATORS — Rotating to next squadrons, staff billets, training commands, or shore duty elsewhere.
RETIRING OCEANA AVIATORS — End-of-career separations. Many stay in Hampton Roads. Some retire to home of record. We handle both.
JOINT-SERVICE PERSONNEL — Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard personnel assigned to joint billets at Oceana or Dam Neck.
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════
🚨 PCS REALITY CHECK — WHAT MARKETING DOESN'T TELL YOU
We've moved enough Oceana aviators to know what the recruiters, HHG carriers, and base welcome packets leave out. Real intel.
THE AICUZ NOISE CORRIDOR IS REAL
F/A-18 Super Hornet training is continuous, including night ops past 2200 in summer. Virginia Beach AND Chesapeake (near NALF Fentress) both require written acknowledgement of jet noise and crash zones for residential lease or purchase inside the AICUZ. Some families adapt instantly. Some never do. Drive your prospective neighborhood at multiple times of day before signing.
VIRGINIA BEACH COST OF LIVING RUNS 8.74% ABOVE NATIONAL AVERAGE
BAH covers most rentals for E-5 through O-3, but the cost-of-living differential affects everything else — groceries, utilities, childcare, restaurants. Plan accordingly.
ON-BASE HOUSING WAITLIST IS UNPREDICTABLE
Anywhere from 0-3 months to 18-24 months depending on rank and housing type. Some families wait it out off-base for the entire tour. Others get on-base within weeks. Apply at 757-447-9851 the day orders confirm. Don't wait for arrival.
AVIATION PCS RHYTHM IS NOT AIR FORCE SURGE
Air Force PCS peaks May-September. Aviation Navy PCS is driven by squadron rotations, workup cycles, deployment cycles, and shore-tour rotations — all of which run year-round. Squadron schedules drive timing more than seasonal calendar.
HHG CARRIERS DECLINE SPECIFIC ITEMS
Pianos, gun safes, antiques, motorcycles, watercraft, certain electronics — government HHG carriers routinely decline these. Aviators tend to own more of these items than average sailors — flight gear, weapons collections, fishing boats, motorcycles. Plan the PPM portion BEFORE the HHG carrier arrives.
RED MILL ELEMENTARY IS A REAL DRAW
Red Mill Elementary in Virginia Beach is one of the top-rated schools in the city. Families with school-age kids often pay BAH out-of-pocket for the Red Mill zone. If schools matter, this is the move.
THE COMMUTE FROM CHESAPEAKE / NORFOLK ADDS UP
Living in Chesapeake or Norfolk and commuting to Tomcat Boulevard runs 20-40 minutes one way depending on tunnels and rush hour. Most aviation families settle in Virginia Beach for commute alone.
DAM NECK ANNEX IS GEOGRAPHICALLY SEPARATE
If your billet is at Dam Neck Annex (DEVGRU, Center for Surface Combat Systems, etc.), commute and housing math is different than NAS Oceana proper. Dam Neck is 9 miles southeast — neighborhoods like Sandbridge, Pungo, and southern Virginia Beach work better than central Virginia Beach.

⚠️ WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG — OCEANA CONTINGENCIES
— GATE TIMING ISSUE — Tomcat Boulevard 24/7 is our default fallback if Back Gate closes during a move
— AICUZ DISCLOSURE PROBLEM — If you discover noise reality after signing, we can help with a same-tour transition move to a different Virginia Beach neighborhood
— GOVERNMENT HHG MISSES PICKUP — We coordinate with carrier when possible. If pickup slides past lease end, we provide storage labor and storage facility connections.
— SQUADRON SCHEDULE CHANGE — Aviation orders shift. We adjust crew and date when possible, refund deposit when not.
— PRE-CRUISE TIMELINE COMPRESSES — Common in tactical aviation. We structure larger crews to meet compressed timelines.
— DAM NECK ANNEX ACCESS DELAY — Different procedures than NAS Oceana proper. We coordinate ahead.
— WEIGHT EXCEEDS GOVERNMENT ALLOWANCE — PPM math becomes relevant. We help estimate.
— WEATHER PROBLEM — Light rain proceeds with tarps and runners. Lightning, heavy snow, or ice triggers a reschedule.

🗣️ PEOPLE ASK US: NAS OCEANA PCS MOVING QUESTIONS
───
How much does a NAS Oceana PCS move cost?
➡️ Norfolk Military Veteran Movers charges $200/hr for 2 movers with truck, $250/hr for 3 movers, and $300/hr for 4 movers. Labor-only is $75/mover/hour with a 2-mover minimum. 3-hour minimum on all tiers. Most Oceana PCS moves run 3 to 8 hours total depending on household size, on-base vs off-base destination, and full HHG versus PPM structure. Military discount applied with orders or VA ID on-site.
Expert Tip: For Hampton Roads local and regional moves, PPM typically nets you MORE than government HHG. We help estimate the weight math.

───
Which NAS Oceana gate should the moving truck use?
➡️ Main Gate on Tomcat Boulevard is the 24/7 gate and our default — it houses the Visitor Control Center. Back Gate (Gate 2) on Oceana Boulevard runs 0530-1730 Monday-Friday only and is closed weekends and federal holidays. Dam Neck Annex has its own separate 24/7 gate with different access procedures. NALF Fentress in Chesapeake is operational airfield only, not residential.
Expert Tip: First-time crew vet at Tomcat Boulevard VCC — plan 30-45 minutes for initial entry. We handle this so your move clock doesn't start at the gate.

───
Do you move into NAS Oceana on-base housing?
➡️ Yes. Oceana District Housing manages 4,165 total on-base units — 3,902 enlisted across 18 areas, 226 officer across 6 areas, plus 37 flag officer units. Waitlists run 0-3 months to 18-24 months depending on rank and housing type. Apply at 1200 S. Birdneck Road or call 757-447-9851 immediately upon receiving orders. We handle the move when your community opens.
Expert Tip: Many families plan for two moves — initial off-base landing, then on-base transition when housing opens. We do both.

───
What is AICUZ and why does it matter for my Oceana move?
➡️ AICUZ stands for Air Installation Compatible Use Zone — the Department of Defense program that identifies areas around military airfields affected by noise and aircraft accident potential. Virginia Beach AND Chesapeake (near NALF Fentress) require written acknowledgement of noise and crash zones for any residential lease or purchase inside the AICUZ. F/A-18 Super Hornet training is continuous, including night flights past 2200 in summer. Some families adapt. Some never do.
Expert Tip: Drive your prospective neighborhood at multiple times of day — including evening — before signing any Virginia Beach or Chesapeake lease.

───
What neighborhoods do NAS Oceana aviators actually live in?
➡️ Closest and most affordable: Shadowlawn ($300-380K, 5-10 min commute, watch AICUZ). Family-friendly with strong schools: Kempsville ($350-400K, 10-15 min), Red Mill ($400-500K, 12-18 min — Red Mill Elementary top-rated). Beach proximity: Hilltop ($375-475K, 10 min). Established quiet streets: Great Neck ($400-600K+, 10 min). Dam Neck-adjacent: southern Virginia Beach (Sandbridge, Pungo). Cross-city: Chesapeake (20-30 min, watch Fentress AICUZ) or Norfolk (25-40 min).
Expert Tip: Red Mill Elementary draws O-3 families. Shadowlawn is most affordable. Kempsville is family-friendly middle ground.

───
Do you handle PPM (Personally Procured Move / DITY) moves at NAS Oceana?
➡️ Yes. PPM is one of our biggest Oceana service categories. Labor-only at $75/mover/hour for your PODS, U-Haul, Penske, or Budget rental, OR full-service with our 26-foot truck. PPM payment from DFAS typically covers our invoice with margin to spare on local and regional moves. Reimbursement arrives 30-90 days after the move.
Expert Tip: Get your empty-truck weight ticket BEFORE loading and your full-truck weight ticket AFTER loading. Both required for PPM reimbursement.
📞 757-330-0008
───
Do you handle squadron-to-squadron rotations within Oceana?
➡️ Yes. F/A-18 pilots, WSOs, and aviation maintainers rotating between Oceana squadrons need fast, efficient local moves — usually with compressed pre-cruise or post-cruise timelines. We handle squadron rotation moves as local rates, not interstate PCS rates. Cost effective for the move, fast enough for the schedule.
Expert Tip: Tell us your squadron rotation timeline at booking. We work backward from your reporting date.
📞 757-330-0008
───
What if my government HHG carrier won't move everything?
➡️ This is the split-shipment scenario. Government HHG weight allowances often won't cover everything — especially after multi-year squadron tours. Aviators tend to own more declined items: motorcycles, watercraft, gun safes, antiques, certain electronics. We handle the personally procured portion at $75/mover/hour labor-only OR full-service. We coordinate with your HHG pickup timeline.
Expert Tip: Plan the PPM portion BEFORE the HHG carrier arrives — they're notoriously selective about what they'll take.
📞 757-330-0008
───
Do you handle moves between NAS Oceana and Dam Neck Annex?
➡️ Yes. Dam Neck Annex is 9 miles southeast of NAS Oceana proper, with its own 24/7 gate and different access procedures (Dam Neck hosts DEVGRU, Center for Surface Combat Systems, and other commands). We handle Oceana-to-Dam-Neck and Dam-Neck-to-Oceana transitions as same-installation local moves. We also handle moves to or from NAS Oceana and Naval Station Norfolk, JEB Little Creek-Fort Story, NWS Yorktown, and Joint Base Langley-Eustis.
Expert Tip: Cross-installation moves within Hampton Roads usually qualify for local move pricing, not interstate PCS rates. Big savings.
📞 757-330-0008
───
Are you a DOD-contracted HHG carrier for NAS Oceana?
➡️ No. We are not a DOD HHG carrier and we do not bid government contracts. We are the local veteran-owned personal-procure crew Oceana aviators hire when government HHG doesn't fully serve their needs — for PPM moves, partial shipments, overflow, short-notice timelines, and post-arrival on-base/off-base transitions. We fill the gap government HHG leaves.
Expert Tip: PPM through us often nets you MORE money than full government HHG for local and regional moves. The math is worth doing.
📞 757-330-0008
───
How far in advance should I book my Oceana PCS move?
➡️ Aviation PCS is year-round volume driven by squadron rotations — not the May-September Air Force surge. Saturday slots: 4-6 weeks ahead during peak rotation cycles, 2-3 weeks off-peak. Weekday slots: 2-3 weeks during peak, 3-5 days off-peak. Orders confirmed = booking call.
Expert Tip: Pre-cruise workup windows and post-cruise return windows are quietly busy. Book early during those windows.
📞 757-330-0008
───
Do you move on weekends and holidays at NAS Oceana?
➡️ Yes. Saturday is our busiest day. Sunday is harder because most leasing offices are closed, but Sunday moves work for on-base, self-contained, or open-lease scenarios. Federal holidays we handle when staffing allows. Tomcat Boulevard Main Gate is 24/7, so off-hours moves are fully feasible.
Expert Tip: Back Gate (Gate 2) closes at 1730 weekdays and is closed weekends — always plan move-day routing through Tomcat Boulevard for evening or weekend moves.
📞 757-330-0008
───
Are you licensed and insured for NAS Oceana moves?
➡️ Yes. Norfolk Military Veteran Movers is fully licensed, bonded, and insured for Virginia local moves and FMCSA-regulated interstate moves. We carry general liability and cargo insurance on every job. Certificate of Insurance documentation provided on request. We've run the Tomcat Boulevard VCC process enough times that our COI passes Visitor Control vetting cleanly.
Expert Tip: Ask any mover for a COI before they roll. We email ours within 24 hours of booking.
📞 757-330-0008
───
Do you offer military discounts on Oceana PCS moves?
➡️ Yes. Veteran-owned. Military discount on every move within Hampton Roads — active duty, retired, veterans, and military families all qualify. Bring orders or a VA ID to the move so the discount applies on-site without back-and-forth.
Expert Tip: Stack the military discount with PPM payment math for maximum net-net on your full move.
📞 757-330-0008
───
What if I'm retiring out of NAS Oceana?
➡️ Veteran-owned crew moving fellow retiring aviators is one of our most meaningful service categories. Retiring and staying in Hampton Roads, we handle the local final move at standard rates. Retiring and moving to home of record elsewhere, we coordinate FMCSA-regulated interstate moves. DOD pays for one final move within one year of separation under specific entitlements — we work with your transition assistance office.
Expert Tip: File final-move entitlement paperwork EARLY in the year leading up to separation.
📞 757-330-0008
───
What corridors do you serve from NAS Oceana?
➡️ Virginia Beach (Shadowlawn, Kempsville, Red Mill, Hilltop, Great Neck, Dam Neck area), Chesapeake (watching Fentress AICUZ), Norfolk cross-city, Suffolk, Portsmouth. Cross-installation: Naval Station Norfolk, JEB Little Creek-Fort Story, NWS Yorktown, JBLE. Cross-tunnel Peninsula: Hampton, Newport News, Yorktown — coordinated with hamptonmovingcompanies.com.
Expert Tip: Tell us cross-installation moves at booking — we route around AICUZ zones AND tunnel timing.
