Your booking confirmation. The deposit receipt. Every text. The call log showing your attempts. Their website page listing the rate they quoted you. Do it now, because companies that strand customers sometimes take listings and pages down afterward.

Do not authorize any new charge to that company. Not a "rescheduling fee," not a "fuel adjustment," nothing. If they ask for more money to come today after failing to come today, that is the moment to stop paying and start looking elsewhere.

Knowing the reason helps you judge whether they might still show up or whether you are wasting daylight.

• They overbooked the day and your job was the smallest one
• A bigger, more profitable job came in and yours got bumped
• A truck broke down and they have no backup truck
• The crew did not show up for work
• They are a broker, not a mover, and no actual carrier accepted your job
• They quoted a price they cannot do the work for and would rather eat the cancellation
• They are shutting down or running out of money

That fifth one catches a lot of people. Some companies that advertise as movers never touch a box. They collect the deposit and shop the job to whoever will take it. When nobody takes it, nobody tells you.

Here is how to tell: if the company that took your deposit cannot say the name of the crew leader or the truck coming to you, you probably booked a broker.

CAN YOU ACTUALLY COME TODAY?

Sometimes. It depends on what is already on the schedule, where our crews are, and what your job needs.

We hold one slot a day for genuine last-minute calls, because this exact situation is why we built it. Eviction protection. Court-ordered moves. PCS recoveries when the household goods truck missed the window. Call and ask. If we can run it, we run it.

Openings also shift through the day as jobs wrap. A cancellation call at 9 a.m. has more options than the same call at 4 p.m., but afternoon and evening slots do open.

What makes it easier to fit you in:

• You are already packed
• You already have a rental truck or container loaded or waiting
• You need two or three movers rather than four
• You are flexible on start time
• Your building has no elevator reservation problem

What makes it harder:

• Nothing is boxed yet
• You need a truck and a full crew with no notice
• A high-rise with a locked freight elevator and no reservation
• Base access that has not been arranged

We will not take a deposit for an arrival window we know we cannot make. If today is gone, we say so and give you the soonest slot that is real.

DEPOSIT AND REFUND POLICY

A one-hour deposit at your chosen service level holds the appointment and comes off the final bill.

Deposits are refundable if you cancel 48 hours or more before your start time. Inside 48 hours, the deposit is kept. If you are reading this page, you are almost certainly inside that window, so understand it before you pay.

Card payments carry a 3% processing fee. We also take cash, Zelle, and Cash App. Any travel, transportation, or specialty-item charge gets named before we confirm the move.

HOW DO I GET MY DEPOSIT BACK?

Handle this after the move is covered. It keeps.

ASK ONCE, IN WRITING

Send one text or email. Short and factual. State the date, the amount you paid, that the crew did not arrive, and that you are requesting a full refund. Give them a deadline, something like five business days. No insults, no threats. You are not writing to persuade them. You are building a record for whoever reads it next.

DISPUTE THE CHARGE WITH YOUR CARD ISSUER

If you paid by credit or debit card and they do not refund you, call the number on the back of your card and ask about disputing a charge for services that were not provided. Your issuer will want the same documentation you already screenshotted: what you paid for, when it was supposed to happen, proof it did not, and proof you asked for a refund first.

Time limits apply and they vary by issuer, so do not sit on this for months. Ask what the deadline is on your first call.

If you paid cash, Zelle, Venmo, or Cash App, you have far less leverage. That is worth remembering for next time.

FILE A COMPLAINT

Complaints do not usually get your money back directly. They build the record that eventually gets a bad operator shut down, and they sometimes shake loose a refund from a company that does not want the paperwork.

WHAT IF A CREW STARTED AND WALKED OFF?
═══════════════════════════════════════

This happens more than people think. A crew shows up, works two hours, then announces the price is higher than quoted, or that the job is bigger than expected, or they simply leave.

Tell us four things and we can usually pick it up:

• What already got moved, and where it went
• What is still in the apartment or house
• Whether their truck is still on site, and whether your belongings are on it
• Your deadline

Photograph the state of things before we arrive. Photograph what is loaded, what is not, and anything that looks damaged. You are protecting yourself in two directions at once, against the company that quit and against any claim about what condition things were in when we started.

IF YOUR BELONGINGS ARE ON THEIR TRUCK

This is a different situation and a more serious one. A mover holding your household goods and demanding more money than the agreed price before releasing them is a known pattern, and there are federal rules about it on interstate moves. Do not get into a physical confrontation over it.

Document what you agreed to pay, what they are now demanding, and what they are holding. Then call the agencies above. For an interstate move, FMCSA's Protect Your Move covers this directly. For a move inside Virginia, start with the DMV and the Attorney General's office.

We can only move what is accessible to us. We do not take property off another company's truck.

MY RENTAL TRUCK IS ALREADY HERE

If you rented the truck and the loading help fell through, you need labor, not a moving company with a truck.

That is a labor-only job, $75 per mover, per hour, three-hour minimum. You keep the truck and drive it. We load it, unload it, or both.

This is the fastest thing to book on short notice, because it does not require one of our trucks to be free. If your U-Haul is due back tonight, lead with that when you call.

The same applies if a PODS, U-Box, PACK-RAT, or ABF U-Pack container is sitting in the driveway and the pickup date is closing in.

🛡️ WHAT COVERAGE APPLIES ON A LABOR-ONLY JOB

We carry general liability and workers' compensation coverage. Certificate of insurance available on request, emailed within an hour of booking confirmation.

We do not carry cargo coverage on a truck or container we did not rent and do not transport. When you rent it, you are the shipper of record. Cargo coverage applies when we supply and drive the truck.

Any company that tells you different on a labor-only job is telling you something that is not true.

MY LEASE IS UP AND MY MOVERS BAILED

Call the movers first. Then the leasing office. In that order, because the leasing office cannot help you if you do not yet know when a crew is coming.

When you call the property manager, tell them plainly that your movers canceled and give them the replacement crew's arrival window. Then ask:

• Can the move-out time be extended, and by how long?
• Is the elevator still reserved, or does it need to be rebooked?
• Is the loading dock available in that window?
• When are keys actually due?
• What do you charge per day if I am late?
• What happens to anything left inside?

Get any extension in writing, in a text or email from the property manager. A verbal "it's fine" from the front desk is not going to help you when the charges post.

Hiring a replacement crew does not extend your lease on its own and does not protect you from late fees. Only the property manager can do that.

A canceled mover is worse when a report date or a housing turnover is driving the calendar.

Tell us up front:

• Your hard date, and what is attached to it
• Whether this is a Personally Procured Move (PPM) and you need weight tickets
• Whether the crew or truck has to get on an installation
• Whether household goods are inbound and you have a delivery window

Base access, ID, and sponsorship have to be handled before we dispatch, not at the gate. If we have to get on an installation, that conversation happens on the booking call.

If you are doing a PPM, keep every receipt from the replacement move. The failed mover's paperwork and the replacement mover's paperwork both matter to your claim. PPM reimbursement also requires certified weight tickets, which come from a certified scale, not from us.

Before you book anyone, including us:

• Ask whether they are the mover or a broker. Ask it directly. "Will your own crew and your own truck be doing this job?"
• Get the hourly rate, the minimum, and the deposit amount in writing before you pay
• Ask whether the deposit is refundable and by when
• Confirm who supplies the truck
• Ask what happens if they cannot make your date
• Check the company against the Virginia DMV list of approved carriers
• Look at whether the reviews describe real jobs or read like they were bought
• Never sign a blank or partially blank document
• Keep every text and email

A real mover will answer all of that without getting defensive. A company that dodges those questions on a calm day is the company that stops answering the phone on your move day.
