Northern Virginia Movers

Northern Virginia Movers — Moves Between Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia

City skyline at dusk by a river with modern buildings.

Moving from Norfolk or Virginia Beach to Northern Virginia — or coming back the other way? Military Veterans Moving People (MVMP) runs the corridor: about 190 miles up Interstate 64 and Interstate 95, from Hampton Roads to Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, and Prince William County. Corridor moves are quoted at a flat rate before move day, and our crews are mixed teams of veterans and civilian professionals who know both ends of the run — the Hampton Roads neighborhoods we load out of, and the Northern Virginia buildings, bases, and traffic we deliver into. This page covers the Northern Virginia side of the move. If your destination is Washington, DC or Maryland instead, our Norfolk to DMV movers page covers that side of the river: https://norfolkmovers.org/norfolk-to-dmv-movers — Get a flat-rate quote: call 757-330-0008.

Why Choose MVMP for a Northern Virginia Move

Family playing joyfully outdoors near a house.

Flat rate, in writing, before move day. A 190-mile corridor move should never run on an hourly meter. We quote the whole move up front; a 25% deposit locks your date. The price we quote is the price of the move. — Veteran-owned, military-move fluent. A huge share of corridor moves are PCS moves — Hampton Roads commands to the Pentagon, Fort Belvoir, Quantico, and Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, and back again. We work personally procured moves (PPM) and know the weight-ticket routine because it's our home market's bread and butter. — Both ends, one crew. The crew that loads you in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, or Chesapeake is the crew that unloads you in Arlington or Fairfax — no hand-offs, no strangers meeting your furniture at the other end. — Published labor rates for the load-out. Driving your own rental up? Our Hampton Roads loading help is priced on this page, in the open: $75 per mover per hour. Call 757-330-0008.

Orders to the Pentagon, Fort Belvoir, Marine Corps Base Quantico, or Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall — or from those commands down to Naval Station Norfolk, NAS Oceana, or Langley — are this corridor's constant traffic. We handle the household goods side of PCS and personally procured moves: careful loading, weight-ticket-friendly work, and a flat-rate quote you can plan a PPM around. A container smooths out a corridor move when your Northern Virginia lease starts after your Hampton Roads one ends — or the reverse. We load containers and PODS units at the Hampton Roads end so the load rides I-95 without shifting. Details: https://norfolkmovers.org/pods-movers-hampton-roads

Orders change, leases fall through, and a mover who promised the moon goes quiet. When a Hampton Roads–to–Northern Virginia move has to happen on a short clock, call us and we'll tell you straight whether we can make your date: our last-minute movers page covers how rush moves work: https://norfolkmovers.org/last-minute-movers

The Corridor Itself: I-64 to I-95

The Corridor Itself: I-64 to I-95

Family playing joyfully outdoors near a house.

The route is simple to say and serious to drive: Interstate 64 west out of Norfolk, past Williamsburg to Richmond, then Interstate 95 north through Fredericksburg to the Capital Beltway. About 190 miles, roughly three and a half hours of pure driving in good traffic — and I-95 north of Richmond is where good traffic goes to be tested. What experience on this run teaches: The drive is the schedule. Load time plus 190 miles plus an unload means a corridor move is a full working day for a typical household. When we quote your move, we tell you honestly whether your load fits one long day or plans better across two — before you book, not on move day. Departure time is a decision. An early Hampton Roads departure puts the truck through Richmond and past Fredericksburg before I-95's worst build-up. Friday afternoon northbound is the corridor's hardest window; if your building gives you a delivery window, work backward from it with us. Quantico is the landmark midpoint. Marine Corps Base Quantico sits right off I-95 in Prince William County — when you pass it northbound, you're on the doorstep of the metro, and southbound, you're halfway home.

The Installation Corridor: PCS Between Two Military Metros

Happy family smiling outside their home.

Arlington — the Pentagon, Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, and the Rosslyn–Ballston corridor's high-rises, plus Pentagon City and Crystal City apartment towers and Arlington's single-family neighborhoods. The closest Northern Virginia landing to DC, and the most building-managed: many Arlington towers run formal move-in procedures. — Alexandria — Old Town's historic streets, the Carlyle and Eisenhower Valley apartment districts, and Landmark-area communities. Old Town deliveries reward a crew that plans truck placement on narrow streets before arrival day. — Fairfax County — Fort Belvoir anchors the county's south; Fairfax City, Vienna, McLean, Tysons, Reston, Herndon, Burke, Springfield, and Annandale cover everything from garden apartments to large single-family homes. This is where a lot of corridor families trading up from Hampton Roads apartments land. — Prince William County — Marine Corps Base Quantico drives the south county: Woodbridge, Dumfries, and Manassas hold a deep stock of townhouses and garden apartments that serve Quantico and Fort Belvoir households. — Loudoun County — Ashburn, Sterling, and Leesburg: the corridor's far end, newer subdivisions and townhouse communities, and an easy argument for getting the flat-rate quote in writing because the miles are real.

The Installation Corridor: PCS Between Two Military Metros

Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia are the two poles of Virginia's military map, and the PCS current runs constantly between them: The Pentagon (Arlington) — the corridor's biggest single destination. Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall (Arlington) — Fort Myer and Henderson Hall, beside Arlington National Cemetery, home to soldiers and Marines working across the National Capital Region. Fort Belvoir (Fairfax County) — one of the Army's largest Virginia posts, drawing families to Springfield, Alexandria, and Fairfax. Marine Corps Base Quantico (Prince William and Stafford counties) — right on I-95, the corridor's midpoint and a destination in its own right. If you're moving on orders, our Norfolk PPM military move guide covers how a personally procured move pays, what weight tickets you need, and how to keep the paperwork clean — https://norfolkmovers.org/norfolk-ppm-military-move — and the $50 military discount applies to corridor moves as it does to every MVMP move.

Moving Tips for the Hampton Roads ↔ Northern Virginia Corridor

Quote the corridor move flat. Any mover who wants to run a 190-mile move on an hourly clock is asking you to pay for I-95 traffic. Flat rate, in writing, 25% deposit — that's the structure that protects you. — Book your building's elevator yourself, the day you sign. Northern Virginia towers and managed apartment buildings commonly require residents to reserve the freight elevator and follow the building's move-in rules. That reservation is the resident's to make with management — make it early, then tell us your window and we plan the truck's arrival around it. — Plan truck placement at delivery, not on arrival. Metro-density streets, garage clearances, and loading areas vary building by building. Tell us what your building or HOA told you — the more we know before the truck rolls, the smoother the unload. — Leave Hampton Roads early. Roughly 3.5 hours of driving sits in the middle of your move day. An early load-out keeps the delivery in business hours at the Northern Virginia end and out of the worst of I-95. — Driving your own rental up? Load for the interstate. A load packed for a cross-town hop can shift over 190 miles. Heavy items low and forward, weight spread side to side, everything strapped — or book our loading crew in Hampton Roads and let us build it for the highway. — PPM movers: weigh both ways. A personally procured move pays on weight — weigh the truck empty and loaded and keep every ticket and receipt. Our PPM guide walks the whole process: https://norfolkmovers.org/norfolk-ppm-military-move

Moving Tips for the Hampton Roads ↔ Northern Virginia Corridor

The corridor: Norfolk to the DC metro is about 190 driving miles via I-64 and I-95 — around 3.5 hours in ordinary traffic, longer when I-95 backs up north of Richmond. The installations: The Pentagon and Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall sit in Arlington; Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County; Marine Corps Base Quantico spans Prince William and Stafford counties, directly on I-95. The counties: Northern Virginia's core is Arlington County, the city of Alexandria, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, and Prince William County — five jurisdictions, five different flavors of the same metro. The midpoint: Quantico, on I-95 roughly halfway up the corridor, is the natural checkpoint of every Hampton Roads–to–Northern Virginia move. Northern Virginia Corridor Rates

Corridor moves (Hampton Roads ↔ Northern Virginia): flat rate. Priced on your inventory, your two addresses, and access at both ends — quoted in writing before move day, with a 25% deposit. No hourly meter running on I-95, ever. Labor-only at the Hampton Roads end (loading your rental truck or container): $75 per mover per hour — $150/hr for 2 movers, $225/hr for 3, $300/hr for 4. Two-mover minimum, 3-hour minimum, $450 to start. Deposits and billing: Hourly labor takes a one-hour deposit, refundable if you cancel 48 or more hours before your move. On hourly work, the billing clock starts when the crew arrives and runs in 15-minute increments after the minimum. The $50 military discount is a standing offer on every move. MVMP carries general liability insurance and workers' compensation; on labor-only jobs there is no cargo insurance — you provide the truck or container and remain the carrier. What about a delivery guarantee? We quote the plan honestly: driving time, load size, and your building's delivery window decide the shape of the day, and we'll tell you before you book whether your move runs in one day or across two. What we won't do is print a delivery promise we can't control traffic to keep.

Northern Virginia Corridor FAQs

Northern Virginia Corridor Rates

Northern Virginia Corridor Rates

1. How much does it cost to move from Norfolk to Northern Virginia? Corridor moves are flat-rate: the price is set by your inventory, the two addresses, and access at both ends, quoted in writing before move day with a 25% deposit. There is no honest chart price for a 190-mile move — call 757-330-0008 and we'll build your number from your actual load. 2. How long does a move from Hampton Roads to Arlington or Fairfax take? The drive itself is about 190 miles — roughly 3.5 hours in ordinary traffic via I-64 and I-95. Your full move day is load time + drive + unload; depending on the size of the load, that fits one long day or plans better across two. We tell you which before you book. 3. Do you run moves from Northern Virginia down to Norfolk, too? Yes — the corridor runs both ways. Families PCS-ing to Naval Station Norfolk, NAS Oceana, or Hampton Roads commands from the Pentagon, Belvoir, or Quantico use the same flat-rate structure in reverse. 4. Can you handle my PCS or PPM move to Fort Belvoir or the Pentagon? Yes. Personally procured moves are home turf for us: flat-rate quote for the corridor, careful loading, and weight-ticket-friendly work so your PPM reimbursement paperwork stays clean. Our Norfolk PPM military move guide explains the process: https://norfolkmovers.org/norfolk-ppm-military-move — and military customers get the standing $50 discount. 5. I'm renting a truck and driving to Northern Virginia myself. Can you just load me in Norfolk? Yes — that's our labor-only service at the Hampton Roads end: $75 per mover per hour, 2-mover and 3-hour minimums, $450 to start. We load for the interstate — heavy and low, strapped for 190 miles — and you drive it up. 6. My Arlington building requires an elevator reservation for moves. How does that work? The reservation is yours to make: Northern Virginia buildings set their own move-in rules, and management books the freight elevator with the resident. Reserve it as soon as you sign your lease, tell us the window when you book your move, and we plan the truck's arrival around it. 7. What deposit do you require for a corridor move? 25% of the flat-rate quote locks your date. For hourly labor-only work, the deposit is one hour, refundable if you cancel 48 or more hours before move day. 8. When does the billing clock start on labor-only work? When the crew arrives at your pickup. After the 3-hour minimum, time runs in 15-minute increments — no rounding up to the next hour. 9. Do you offer a military discount? Yes — $50 off, a standing offer on every move, corridor moves included. Just mention it when you book. 10. Are my belongings insured on a corridor move? MVMP carries general liability insurance and workers' compensation on every job. On labor-only jobs there is no cargo insurance — the truck or container is yours and you are the carrier, so check your rental's protection options for cargo coverage on the drive up.
