We know the crossing. The Bridge-Tunnel has tolls, vehicle-size rules, and wind restrictions that can hold trucks. Shore moves live and die on crossing logistics, and that's built into how we schedule.
Military and federal-move experience. The Shore's biggest employer corridor — NASA Wallops Flight Facility and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport — runs on relocations, rotations, and orders. We move military families and federal workers under the same personally procured move (PPM) rules we work under in Hampton Roads.

For a complete move, our crew brings the truck and handles the job end to end: $200/hr for 2 movers and a truck, $250/hr for 3, $300/hr for 4, 3-hour minimum. Moves within the Eastern Shore are billed hourly. Moves between the Shore and Hampton Roads — or anywhere else in Virginia — are quoted at a flat rate with a 25% deposit, because a crossing move shouldn't run on a meter.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (officially the Lucius J. Kellam Jr. Bridge–Tunnel) is a 17.6-mile fixed crossing of the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, carrying US 13 between the Eastern Shore and Virginia Beach/Norfolk. It opened on April 15, 1964, replacing the old vehicle ferries, and it is still the only road off the Shore heading south. What that means for your move: There is a toll, in each direction, and it varies by vehicle. A moving truck pays more than a car. We flag the crossing cost when we quote your move so it never shows up as a surprise. The crossing itself takes roughly 25 minutes in normal conditions — but a Shore move starts well before the toll plaza and ends well past it, and the schedule is built around the whole run, not just the bridge. Wind is a real planning factor. The Bridge-Tunnel authority restricts vehicles — including trucks and trailers — in high winds. On a windy day, the honest move is to check conditions before rolling and shift the crossing time rather than gamble. There is no alternate route south. If the crossing slows down, everything slows down. We build buffer into Shore-to-Hampton-Roads moves instead of pretending otherwise.

The Eastern Shore is not only farms and beach towns. NASA's Wallops Flight Facility, in northeastern Accomack County, has launched rockets from Wallops Island since the 1940s, and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport — operated by the Virginia Spaceport Authority — flies orbital missions from the same island, including cargo runs to the International Space Station. NASA staff, Navy and Coast Guard personnel, and aerospace contractors working for the companies that launch there form a steady stream of relocations into Accomack County — engineers and technicians moving to Chincoteague, Accomac, and Onancock on contract cycles and orders. If you're moving for a Wallops job, the pattern to know: rental housing on the northern Shore is limited and turns over around launch-program schedules, so moves here are often date-certain. Book the crew when you sign the lease, not after.

Room to breathe: Kiptopeke State Park, on the Bay near Cape Charles, sits on the Atlantic Flyway — its hawk observatory is a fall landmark, and its ramp and pier are working parts of Shore life, not just scenery.

1. Do you cover the whole Eastern Shore, or just part of it? Both counties — Accomack and Northampton. We serve Cape Charles, Cheriton, Eastville, Nassawadox, Exmore, Accomac, Onancock, Parksley, Wachapreague, Chincoteague, and the communities along US Route 13 between them.
2. How much does an Eastern Shore move cost? Labor-only loading and unloading is $75 per mover per hour — $150/hr for 2 movers, $225/hr for 3, $300/hr for 4 — with a 3-hour minimum, so a standard crew starts at $450. 3. How are moves between the Eastern Shore and Norfolk priced? Flat rate. A Shore-to-Hampton-Roads move crosses the Bridge-Tunnel and runs an hour or more each way, so we quote the whole job up front with a 25% deposit instead of running an hourly meter. Local moves within the Shore are billed hourly.
4. Who pays the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel toll? The Bridge-Tunnel charges a toll in each direction, and the amount varies by vehicle — a moving truck pays more than a car. We walk through the current toll for your move when you call for a quote, so the crossing cost is in your budget from the start, not a surprise on move day.
5. Can wind delay my move across the Bridge-Tunnel? It can. The Bridge-Tunnel authority restricts trucks and trailers in high winds, and when it does, crossings wait. We watch the forecast and the authority's restrictions around your move day and shift the crossing time if conditions require it.
6. I'm renting a truck or getting a PODS container delivered on the Shore. Can you just load it? Yes — that's our labor-only service. You rent and drive (or have the container dropped), and our crew loads or unloads it: $75 per mover per hour, 2-mover and 3-hour minimums. We load for the crossing, heavy and low, so nothing shifts over 17.6 miles of bridge.
7. Do you handle moves for Wallops Flight Facility workers? Yes. We move NASA, military, and contractor households relocating for Wallops Flight Facility and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport — including personally procured moves (PPM) for service members. 8. When is the worst time to move on the Eastern Shore? Pony Penning week on Chincoteague — the last Wednesday and Thursday of July — and summer holiday weekends in the beach towns. If your dates are flexible, a weekday outside those windows is the smoothest move on the Shore.
9. What deposit do you require, and is it refundable? Hourly moves: one hour, refundable if you cancel 48 or more hours before move day. Flat-rate moves between the Shore and Hampton Roads: 25% of the quoted rate.
10. Are my belongings insured during the move? MVMP carries general liability insurance and workers' compensation on every job. On labor-only jobs there is no cargo insurance — your belongings ride in your truck or container and you are the carrier, so review the rental company's protection options if you want cargo coverage for the crossing.
