ODU's spring semester ends in early May every year. The two weeks around finals week and the days after are the busiest student moving window in Norfolk.

Realistic expectations for this window:

Movers book up fast. Every Norfolk moving company — us included — sees high demand during ODU's move-out rush. Don't wait until the last minute to call. The earlier you book, the better your chance of getting your preferred time slot.

Prime time slots go first. Saturday mornings during move-out week fill up before weekday slots. If your timing is flexible, a Tuesday or Wednesday morning is easier to book than a Saturday.

Parents flying in have less flexibility than students who are local. We try to prioritize the out-of-state families with tight travel windows, but we can't always accommodate last-minute changes.

Traffic around campus gets intense. Expect heavier-than-normal Hampton Boulevard traffic, especially between 10 AM and 4 PM during move-out week. Morning moves (starting 7:30-9:00 AM) avoid the worst of it.

Dumpsters and donation drop-offs fill up. If your student is throwing stuff out or donating, plan donation drop-offs early in the week rather than at the end. Local Goodwill and Salvation Army locations get overwhelmed.

If you're planning a fall move-in and want to book us, we recommend getting on the calendar by late July. The August rush books up fast — often 4 to 6 weeks before the week itself.

We also handle faculty and graduate student moves outside the rush windows, and we handle moves for ODU-affiliated professionals year-round.

Parking isn't available where expected. ODU move-out week overwhelms parking lots. We adapt on arrival — find alternate legal parking, shuttle items on dollies if necessary, work with residence hall staff on loading zone coordination.

Student hasn't finished packing. It happens. We can help with final packing for an additional cost, or we can prioritize what IS packed and make a second trip if needed. Talk to us honestly about the situation.

Weather problem on move day. Norfolk spring weather is generally manageable. We proceed through light rain with tarps and protective wrap. Severe thunderstorms or lightning triggers a short pause for safety.

Rental truck arrives late. Happens more often than you'd think during rush week. We bill from our arrival time, so if the truck is late, you eat that time. We'll help coordinate with the rental company if needed.

More stuff than the truck can hold. We can recommend immediate solutions — second trip if time allows, donation/disposal of items that don't need to go, storage unit for overflow.

Student changed their mind about what's going. Okay. We adapt. More items, fewer items, different order of loading — we work with you.
